Emirates Economy and Business Class Review. London - Dubai - Mauritius
This was a four sector journey for us; flying to MRU via DXB on the way out and then having a 2 night stopover in Dubai on the way back. We flew out of Gatwick to Dubai in economy and had an invitation to the Emirates lounge in the North terminal so decided to compare it with the No1 lounge next door which we have access to with our priority pass. The wine and food in the Emirates lounge were excellent and there was plenty of room on the sofas and dining areas so it never felt overcrowded. In comparison the No1 lounge was rather busy, and doesn’t manage to provide the food quality that Emirates offers, but does have more of an atmosphere if that is what you prefer. The Emirates lounge tends to be quieter and has a more formal vibe as it’s mostly business travellers and frequent flyers. There are also great facilities here for working on the move if you have meetings to prepare for or just need a calm environment to catch up on your emails.
Onboard the comfort and quality in the economy cabin definitely ranks up there in the top 5 for scheduled long haul airlines but it quickly became apparent what this airlines winning feature is and it’s the entertainment. The screen is large and clear and Emirates ICE has more choice across it’s movies, box sets and music collections than any other airline, so you really are spoilt for choice. The youngster in our party was delighted with it all as you can imagine. Other than that the staff are courteous and helpful and everything else is what you would expect form this leading long haul carrier. The flights were all on time and apart from a very messy boarding procedure in Dubai on to our flight to Mauritius there was nothing to complain about.
We had decided to pay for an upgrade to business class for the Dubai to Mauritius sector as it was an overnight flight and we could get some sleep on the flat beds. This was a great decision because the fully flat beds and general comfort of the business class suites are fabulous. The level of service you get in this cabin is excellent and you can see why this product is so popular amongst business travellers. The only problem was I was so comfortable I didn’t get chance to taste the wine or dinner as I fell straight asleep as did the rest of the family so we arrived in Mauritius refreshed and ready for our holiday.
